Old Prussian Surface Measurements
and Linear Measures

In the past there were many different surface measurements and linear Measures.

In the altkulmischen measure, valid until 1577, had

1 Hufe 30 Morgen and

1 Morgen had 300 square Ruthen.

1 square Ruthe had 18,678 square meters.

1 Ruthe=4,322 meters (also counted 4,344m, different in the regions)

After 1577 until 1721 the neukulmische Maß was valid.

1 Hufe = 30 Morgen =300 square Ruthen.

1 square Ruthe had 19,26544 square meters.

1 Ruthe=4,389 m long

After 1721 until 1755 respectively 1793 it was counted to oletzkoischem Maß. (1755 until 1793 there were differences, wether it was counted with Cöllmern, Schatullegütern, or royal farmer goods.)

1 Hufe = 30 Morgen =300 square Ruthen.

1 square Ruthe had 17,387 square meters.

1 Ruthe=4,170m long

After 1793 it was counted according preußischem Maß (=magdeburgisches Maß) (prussian=magdeburgian measure).

1 Hufe = 30 Morgen. But now the Prussian Morgen had just 180 square Ruthen.

1 square Ruthe had 14,185 square meters.

1 Ruthe was 3,766 m long .

1 Morgen had 2553 square meters oder 0,2553 hectares.

The Prussian was as long as the Ruthes from the Rhineland 3,766m lang.

2000 Ruthen were 1 Meile = 7,532 kilometers.

Even 1830 in the orign tax land register there were stated many declarations in kulmischem or oletzkoischem measure. Just in the supplements the Prussian measure had its way.
